Planning Your Winter Wedding

When discussing winter themed weddings, a few things come to mind. If you select a Christmas or Valentine’s Day wedding, obviously red and dark green become excellent color choices for attire, cakes, bouquets, and décor. This is not the end of your options, however. Ice blue, silver, and white also impart a tremendous impression of cold breezes, iced ponds, and snowflakes.

Winter Wedding Invitations

Winter Wedding invitations are easy to find when you are planning a winter themed wedding. Holly and poinsettias are perfect choices for a December or Christmas wedding. Snowflakes, silvery blue, and silver embossed invitations will suit any winter month. By St. Valentine’s Day, hearts and Cupid easily fit into the theme.

Winter Wedding Locations

A wedding ceremony in front of a roaring stone fireplace is always an option. Many lodges and hotels offer banquet rooms that will suffice. You can always rent electric fireplaces to add to the romantic feel. The bride and groom can arrive or be whisked way by a horse drawn sleigh. If you live in or near a ski area, log homes turned into inns offer a splendid backdrop for a wedding. You can book every room in the inn to allow all guests and/or the wedding party to enjoy some time together in festivity. The possibilities are endless.

Winter Wedding Attire

When choosing wedding attire, silver cummerbunds on the men and iced blue taffeta gowns for the woman complement each other nicely. Dark red dresses lined with white fur trim is another outstanding option. White roses with blue accents will complement any iced blue gown, while red roses, sprigs of holly, and baby’s breath become obvious choices for red and green attire.

Winter Wedding Cakes

Wedding cakes can be decorated to resemble ice and snow. Another option is to skip the cake and rent a large chocolate fountain instead with platters of pound cake and fresh fruit for dipping. If you can afford it, ice sculptures can lend charisma to the reception hall.

Mugs of hot chocolate and scrumptious cups of Irish or Mexican coffee can warm guests from the chilling effects of blowing show outside. Beer and wine can make way for the warmer cups of coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and even some mulled cider. Any of these suggestions will thrill newlyweds and their guests. The best part is that with a winter theme the possibilities are endless.

The Winter Wedding Reception

The reception hall can be decorated with strands of blue and white Christmas lights. Candles in hurricane jars can add romantic lighting at every table. Tablecloths and napkins in blue with silver trim all fit nicely into the theme. If you find a reception hall with a fireplace, see if they will let you hold a fire. If not, rows of candles still add to the effect.

Winter is a fantastic time for a wedding. Freshly fallen snow, roaring fires adding a toasty romantic feel on a cold winter’s night, and romantic Valentine’s themes filling the air with love and tenderness. It is no wonder that winter is such a popular time for a wedding. Many weddings occur in December and February. So book early if this is your goal.
